The Willows

The Willows was a complex project combining into a single building a 2 form entry junior school and a special needs school both located on the main site for the new building. The space  constraints on the site in addition to identified mine workings and resultant remediation, resulted in the new build, demolition of existing and relocation of the schools having to be undertaken in 5 phases. Two severe period of weather also disrupted the construction of the project. The super-insulated timber frame construction, natural cladding materials and biomass heating system produced a high performance building which attained a BREEAM excellent rating.
